Gonçalo Amaral’s wrote his book ‘The Truth of The Lie’ (Portuguese titel: 'A Verdade Da Mentira') about the case, which was published in July 2008. Nearly a year later, the McCanns’ lawyers filed a libel suit in the Lisbon Court claiming that his book had damaged the search for Madeleine and had caused them immense emotional distress. They demanded 1 Million Pounds (1.2 million euros) compensation from him.
